The meeting was organized in conjunction with the Catalan Biology Society and held at the Institute of Catalan Studies in Barcelona on Thursday 31 March and Friday 1 April 2011.
Peter Jones of the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, USA, Axel Ullrich of the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry, Germany and Erwin Wagner of the Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO) were joined by other international experts on chromatin to discuss various aspects of chromatin research. Marcus Buschbeck, one of the organizers from the IMPPC explained that they were very happy with the program and the way that the sessions had shown a gradual progression from the plasma membrane to the nucleus and continuing deep into the mysteries of chromatin. Miquel Àngel Peinado, also from the IMPPC commented that they were very pleased with the extremely high standard of the talks.
Dr Manuel Perucho, Director of the IMPPC, in his closing remarks mentioned the wide spectrum of delegates, with the important chromatin groups from Barcelona well represented, but also a high percentage of researchers from other countries. “I believe that this shows that despite its youth the IMPPC is a major league player,” he added.
The 2012 IMPPC conference will be on RNA Biology in Cancer and other Diseases; see the website for more details soon.
