Group Leader Mechanisms of Tumor Progression Group

Miguel A. Peinado took his degree in Biology at the University of Barcelona and went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Neuroendocrinology at the Department of Endocrinology at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona in 1989. During his period as a postdoctoral researcher at the California Institute of Biological Research, La Jolla, Miquel A. developed his life-long interest in cancer research and genetic instability. He continued this line of research on his return to Catalonia when he was recruited to the Cancer Research Institute (IRO) where he established his own research group and carried out considerable research in conjunction with the Catalan Institute of Oncology. By 2002 the group had switched to the new field of epigenetics in the context of cancer research. In 2007 Dr. Peinado was appointed as Scientific Coordinator of the newly created Institute of Predictive and Personalized Medicine of Cancer (IMPPC). Dr. Peinado has coauthored more than 90 scientific articles and is also co-inventor in 4 registered patents.
