IMPPC Fundación Institut de Medicina Predictiva i Personalitzada del Càncer
Welcome to the Institute of Personalized and Predictive Medicine of Cancer (IMPPC). The IMPPC is a centre for biomedical research set up by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Autonomous Government of Catalonia) [Ministry of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise and Ministry of Health] in collaboration with other institutions. The primary objective of the IMPPC is to set up a centre dedicated to research into Predictive and Personalized Medicine of Cancer. As the different activities of the centre start functioning you will find information about research programs, the researchers working on them, job opportunities and information about our activities on this site.
The IMPPC is located in Badalona (Barcelona, Spain) within the grounds of the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital. Research carried out here will study the factors related to susceptibility to cancer. Initially work will centre on gastrointestinal cancer but the aim is to extend this to include other frequently occurring cancers such as breast or prostate cancer. To achieve these objectives there will be more than 100 professionals directly employed in research and support tasks. Both basic and applied research will be carried out into predisposition for and resistance to cancer, its development and progression and prediction of responses to treatments, all based on the genetics and genome of the patient.
The centre will also provide services in the field of Predictive and Preventive Medicine and in coordination with other research centres and hospitals it will act as a centre of reference for genetic data in Catalonia. It will offer early diagnosis of neoplastic pathologies, especially in hereditary cancers.
