10.   Why Badalona?

The IMPPC is one of the latest of the biomedical centers to be established in the context of the Catalan BioRegion and its collaboration with other research and health centers in the area are fundamental to its research strategy.  One of these partners is the Institute for Health Science Research Germans Trias i Pujol (FIICSGTiP), the management body for an association of research centers presided over by the Minister of Health.  The new IMPPC building is adjacent to the FIICSGTiP.  The centers in the complex comprise:

Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital HUGTIP

Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (Autonomous University of Barcelona)(UAB)

       Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO)

       IDI

CTBT (Centre de Transfusió i Banc de Teixits)

       irsiCaixa Foundation

       Guttman Institute

The Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital (HUGTiP) and the Institute for Health Science Research Germans Trias i Pujol (FIICSGTiP) are located in Badalona, 20 minutes from the center of Barcelona.   The City Council of Badalona has generously offered a building in the same complex as the FIISGTiP. The site offers possibilities not available in the highly built up city of Barcelona and the IMPPC will be in a prime position next to the hospital and Institute for Health Science Research.

The scientific director of the institute, Prof. Ricard Pujol I Borrell, Professor in Immunology at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (Autonomous University of Barcelona) has already identified a strategic objective of setting up an institute of Molecular Medicine that already fits closely with this project.
