The BioRegion of Catalonia is a new regional development model that has been set up with the aim of improving people's quality of life through better coordination of the biotechnology activity being carried out in Catalonia, particularly in the field of life sciences and the agro-food sector. The objective is to make Catalonia an international point of reference that is associated with top quality research, a competitive business network and a robust and dynamic knowledge transfer system.
Furthermore, the
BioRegion of Catalonia seeks to contribute to economic and social development
by promoting the strategic sector of biotechnology, the latter being of key
importance not only as a means of increasing knowledge but also as a driving
force behind the economy
How Will the
BioRegion do this?
• By coordinating biomedical research and biotechnology in Catalonia.
• By creating a suitable environment for the transfer of knowledge and technology.
• By making an overall contribution to the development and commercialization of innovative biotechnology products.
• By setting the foundations of a powerful business sector.

The bioregion means more investment in the institutions and services required for research and a better coordination of the same.
