Ignacio Blanco, MD, PhD, practices cancer genetics and clinical genetics at the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), where he serves as a Coordinator of the Genetic Counseling Units of the Hereditary Cancer Program.
Dr. Blanco received his MD degree at the University of Barcelona (1987) and completed his Residency in General and Digestive Surgery at Sant Pau Hospital (Barcelona, Spain, 1994). In 1996 he received his PhD degree at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and was awarded a research fellowship in Tumor Biology and Immunotherapy at University of Nebraska Medical Center (Omaha, Nebraska, USA) under the supervision of Dr. Margaret Tempero and Dr. David Colcher. In 2001, he joined the faculty of the Catalan Institute of Oncology as a Physician in the Hereditary Cancer Program. Dr. Blanco is Spanish board-certified in General and Digestive Surgery and he is also Accredited in Human Genetics by the Spanish Society of Human Genetics.
As well as his research and clinical work Dr. Blanco is an Associated Professor in the Department of Pathology and Experimental Therapeutics at University of Barcelona.
His research activities include emotional Impact of Genetic Counseling, Cancer Risk Assessment, Rare Diseases and molecular basis of hereditary cancer.
